The National Butterfly Center is a project of the North American Butterfly Association (NABA), a nonprofit dedicated to conserving and studying wild butterflies in their habitats. McAllen Nature Center, formerly McAllen Botanical Gardens, is a city-operated nature preserve in McAllen, Texas. It is located at 4101 West Business US 83, between Ware and Bentsen Roads on the west side of McAllen. Established in 1962, the gardens initially focused on palms. Today, the site is maintained as a general nature area, featuring three-quarters of a mile of trails through pristine native thornscrub habitat, perfect for birding. Additionally, there are picnic areas available.
